Wolford Launches Magical Tights That Won't Give You Muffin Top

Tights—you love them, but you honestly kindof hate them, too. They're essential for wearing dresses and skirts in the winter, but that suctioned-in feeling? Or when you overeat and the waistband is digging into your sides? Or when you have your tights comically stretched out and pulled up to your boobs just for it to stay put? Yeah, that's more than enough reason to give up on the piece altogether. All your tights gripes are the result of sizes based on height versus waist. But that's about to change: Wolford has launched the first-ever pair of tights with an adjustable waistband that you can customize to your body. Mind, blown.

Named the "Comfort Cut," these 40 denier tights (; wolford.com) boast a stretchy yoga waistband that you can extend up to five different sizes. Within each band, there are four slits (marked with scissors, which indicates where to cut); each slit is equivalent to half a size. For example: If your tights are a size small, cut twice for a medium, four times for a large. In short, these will help relieve those "why can't I breathe, these tights are so tight" moments and are especially great for expectant moms and curvy petites. Buy your Custom Cut pair (it comes in five colorways with sizes from XS to XL) at wolfordshop.com and follow the step-by-step instructions, below.

1. FOLD OVER THE WAISTBAND.

2. CUT A SLIT WHERE IT'S MARKED (EACH SLIT IS EQUAL TO A HALF SIZE INCREASE).

3. CHECK THE FIT.

4. FOLD THE WAISTBAND BACK UP.

5 Times Sarah Jessica Parker Wore Really Cool Tights This Winter

Sarah Jessica Parker has never been one to stick to conventions when it comes to fashion, and this season, it turns out she’s actually rewriting the rule book.

Lately, the actress and SJP Collection designer has been keeping her sandals in rotation — despite frigid temperatures — with the help of some very striking legwear. While some would say tights and sandals are a fashion no-no, Parker is proving this look can be one you might want to rock all season long.

During a visit to the TV talk show “The View,” Parker wore the Westminster bright blue sandals from her collection with honeycomb print tights — a subtle way to dip your toe into this styling.

In November, Parker provided Christmas outfit inspiration when she paired the Westminster in red with Wolford’s Roxette tight.

Of course, much like her “Sex and the City” TV character, Carrie Bradshaw, Parker isn’t afraid to make a head-turning sartorial statement. While some might balk at the combination of a bright color and a print, Parker embraced it. Last month, she paired her SJP Collection silver snake-print sandals with bubblegum pink tights.

This season, the anklet trend is everywhere, and naturally, Parker put her own spin on it. At an event this month, she wore the SJP Collection Carrie T-strap sparkly pumps with sheer black anklets.

Sarah Jessica Parker's pulling a full-on fashion dare. Not only did she wear white tights with her floral dress in November, she swapped the safe choice, aka black, for something bold and white.

Did Patterned Tights Just Become a Thing?

Patchworked lace tights were a key styling element for Karl Lagerfeld's Pre-Autumn 2016 Chanel show when it was presented last December, but we couldn't have predicted just how seismic those hosiery waves would be across the fashion world.

Patterned tights haven't been particularly popular in a long time. Let's be honest: They are one of those accessories that can veer into trashy territory, but a new crop of all-black styles have more than a chance at looking chic and provide a great opportunity to pepper your look with newness while we're still in the depths of winter. Socks have a higher profile than ever, but just one look at the A-listers and trailblazers wearing fishnets or patterned black tights here, and your mind will be made up. Hey, if Alexa and Carine agree with each other, who are we to argue?

Four Hosiery Innovations You Can’t Miss This Season

We can’t deny how amazed with are with the new hosiery trends for Autumn Winter 2016, as you must have noticed after our most recent posts about fashion trends and hosiery collections. However, there’s something else you need to know about the new AW16 collections: its technological advances!
Do you remember our post about the under-toe seams and other hosiery innovations? Well, there’s more you need to know. These are the four hosiery innovations you can’t miss this season.

A pair of tights without a waistband? Yes, it’s happening!

Had you ever imagine you could own a pair of sheer tights without a waistband? Cecilia de Rafael has made it possible! The new Cecilia de Rafael Eterno 15 Tights are more than a regular pair of glossy sheer tights. They are an extremely comfortable pair of glossy tights! More features? Sandal toe, ladder resist and cotton gusset. Who can resist to great hosiery innovations like these!

Wolford Comfort Cut 40 Tights: The Ultimate Comfort

Talking about hosiery innovations, this is one of the latest innovations in the fashion world: A customisable waistband!
The waist size of the Wolford Comfort Cut tights is decided by the wearer, who can adjust it by making up to four cuts in the waistband.
What are the benefits of customisable waistbands in hosiery? Many! Tall people often have to wear X Large sizes to fit their long legs. What if you are tall but slender? In this case, you may find the waistband in your tights is too big for you. On the opposite, if you are short and you have a round shape, you will go for wider waistbands. Forget about baggy hosiery: A few cuts here and there and you’ll have your customised tights ready to rock! Everyone who tries them loves them. That can’t be a coincidence!

Couture Ultimates: No Seams Plus No Ladders!

Countdown to the arrival of the new Couture Ultimates range! Are you as excited as we are? In a few days, you’ll be able to judge by yourself. Until then, trust our word when we say this is one of the biggest hosiery innovations in years and it’s a Made-in-Britain innovation! The Couture Ultimates tights are completely seamless, do not ladder (ladder proof, rather than ladder resistant), have a leg smoothing effect and are truly beautiful. These in the picture above are The Diana, one of the seven patterned tights included in their AW16 collection.

The Next Big Thing in Opaques: Nanofabrics

Soft opaque tights are generally made of microfibre, but now Oroblu and Le Bourget have introduced nanofibres, instead of microfibres. Nanofibre yarn creates incredibly soft-touch and silky-effect textiles. Le Bourget Heritage Luxe 60 Denier Tights are the first nanofibre opaque tights we stock, although Oroblu is catching up Le Bourget with new nanofibre sheer tights: Oroblu Divine Tights, as below. The new range of Oroblu will be available very soon at UK Tights is now available at UK Tights!
What hosiery innovation would you like to see in the future?

These Harry Potter tights will turn your legs into an actual book

Tight season is here, which is good for three reasons. Number one, you don't have to use a razor again for 5 months (possibly longer). Number two, you don't have to worry about fake tan, or fake tan streaks because your legs are now encased in wool. And number three, you get the additional benefit of an elasticated waist until at least April.

But there might actually be a fourth reason if you are a Harry Potter fan, because you can now buy Harry Potter tights with actual Harry Potter quotes on. Who needs books hey?
TightsShop on Etsy are selling these magical garms and if you're not a HP fan (we haven't got time to argue about this now) don't worry, because they have a whole range of literary tights.

Game of Thrones anybody?

Or how about Romeo and Juliet? Spoiler, these DON'T come with Leo's face printed on the crotch area. But maybe that's something to think about next time TightsShop?

The Eighties-inspired sheer tights are back in trend this winter

Good news! Sheer black tights are back.
Fashion epiphanies are sometimes a matter of noticing the smallest, almost imperceptible things that can end up making you feel incredibly smug.
This winter, it’s the tiny yet game-changing matter of the right tights. Forget opaques. Dismiss bare legs. Believe it or not, sheer black tights are back for the first time since the Eighties.

Now, if anyone had told me last year that I’d ever find the slightest desire to wear sheer black tights again, I would have scoffed at them. Never! Not me! I’d had sheer hosiery so firmly categorised as old-fashioned, frumpy and generally unnecessary to life that it was just inconceivable.
Last winter, I remember waiting in a smart Paris hotel lobby while a cocktail party was going on and feeling supercilious to observe that the gathered Frenchwomen — and I am speaking of businesswomen of a certain age — were all wearing sheer black tights and court shoes.

What an old, backdated, conservative French custom, I thought. Something we advanced British left behind around the time of Robert Palmer’s Addicted To Love video — which would be 1986.
Now I’m eating my words. The subliminal comeback for black sheers started on the catwalks in March, most noticeably at Hedi Slimane’s swansong collection for Yves Saint Laurent.
You’ve guessed it: the inspiration was all things Eighties —velvet pelmet minis, giant lame shoulders, puffball skirts.

Frankly, the models were so thin they were painful to look at and the whole thing was so shockingly extreme it was hard to imagine it having any real-world impact.
But there has been one: Slimane’s girls wore black 15-denier tights and since then it’s become a trend on the catwalks and among the fashion crowd.
Once you’ve adjusted your eye, the great thing about this look is that it’s obviously the cheapest fashion revolution of the year: a new look available in every supermarket and department store in the land. Also, it’s ageless.
While young, leggy girls are switching to sheers as a novelty, the rest of us have a perfect entitlement to them, too. Good legs are a lifelong blessing, if you happen to have them and they never look better dressed than in sheer black hosiery. Fifty, 60, 70 — go ahead, be enviable!

15 denier tights:The rules
As soon as there’s the slightest snag, bin them — you just look unkempt otherwise.
Sheer is good, shine is not. We don’t have to go back to the Eighties. Keep it matt — it looks much more sophisticated.
Resist patterns, whether seams up the back or polka dots. Keep it simple.
NEVER be tempted to go down a size. There’s nothing less flattering, or uncomfortable, than tights that don’t fit.

Even those of us with non-racehorse limbs can get into it. For me, the new black sheer option solved all my dilemmas about what to wear with my favourite black midi skirt and has given new life to a mid-calf cocktail dress I haven’t worn for years.
Opaques looked too drab and depressing with them. Fishnets felt too risky. A semi-transparent coating of black tights does the trick beautifully. As for where to buy them, there are options on every corner.
If you’re the type who can’t wear sheer tights without seeming to encounter every nail or splinter in the vicinity, it’s probably wise not to splash your cash on the upper end of the market.
But there’s no denying that if you spend more, you get smoother, silkier tights that — in my experience — last longer than less expensive brands.
For some inexplicable reason, when it comes to high-end hosiery, the German-speaking countries have cornered the market with Wolford (Austrian), Falke (German) and Fogal (Swiss) among the best.
Try Wolford’s super soft Luxe 9 (£17, wolfordshop.co.uk), Falke’s Lunelle 8 denier, which come in six sizes (£16, falke.com), or Fogal’s super soft Catwalk 10 denier (£25.50, fogalworld.com).
When it comes to the High Street, M&S offers every variation at competitive prices.
With so many options, you’ll find one to suit — it’s an easy, sophisticated solution for what to wear this winter. Great for parties, nice for everyday.

Beauty Tights: The pantyhose that claim to relieve stress and alleviate PMS through... crystals

A new pair of tights have been released which are said to relieve stress and anxiety, alleviate PMS, diminish blemishes and reduce cellulite - but is it all too good to be true?

Beauty Tights are the newest product from a German legwear company called Item M6, and while there's no scientific evidence that they work, a Vogue editor insists she felt a difference when wearing them.

The tights have ceramic crystals melted into the stretchy yarn. According to the brand they turn body warmth into infrared radiation; the same principle used in infrared saunas that’s said to heal and detoxify.

It doesn’t stop there though. The tights are also made from compression fabric, you know, the type hailed by fitness fanatics and frequent fliers for combating fatigue and swelling.

The company behind the tights says they fit so precisely that they stimulate an acupressure point called the spleen 6 meridian. That's an area said to boost energy, ease digestive concerns, treat insomnia and even alleviate symptoms of PMS. Apparently they tackle fatty deposits too.

But so far, none of the tights' effects have been scientifically proven.

However Vogue editor Eviana Hartman said: “I could have sworn my skin felt softer afterward. The tourniquet effect was pleasant—calming, even. As for the results of all that spleen meridian stimulation, it’s hard to say. But I was mostly happy and productive during that fortnight, and after wearing them on a six-hour JFK-to-LAX flight, I noticed a conspicuous absence of jet lag."

As spirituality and wellness becomes more mainstream the use of crystals is escalating; even beauty brand Starskin has combined sheet masks with diamond, tourmaline and emerald to brighten and illuminate the skin.

But what’s interesting here is that these new age fans are a far cry from the clichéd hippies you may once have associate with crystal healing.

Woman sues tights company because they didn’t give her the orgasms she hoped for

A New York woman is reportedly suing a tights company for false advertising after her stockings didn’t quite hit the spot.

Meng Wang, from Queens, bought a pair of Kushyfoot shaping tights for $7 at Duane Reade drugstore. But she was left a little frustrated when they didn’t deliver the same orgasmic experience as the models in the brand’s ad appeared to have.

According to the New York Post, Wang filed a class action lawsuit in Brooklyn earlier this week, against the Canadian based company Gildan Outerwear which owns Kushyfoot.

The ad for the tights shows models walking down the street, saying things like ‘That’s the spot’, ‘So good’, and ‘That’s it’, interspersed with the odd moan and groan while a woman sings ‘I’m super satisified, super satisified’ over the top.

The suit claims the ad uses ‘highly sexually charged phrases’ and the lady’s lawyer C.K.Lee, told the Post that the ad led Wang to believe she would get ‘a massage through her pantyhose.’

But, the disappointed shopper got no satisfaction from the pantyhose.

The product’s blurb promises ‘massaging sole for extra comfort’ and a ‘firm shaper that tames your tummy, hips and thighs.’

Wang’s suit argues that the company didn’t follow through on its ‘tension relief and massage claims’ and says the ads used misleading language.

Why pantyhose sales are still surprisingly strong

You can credit (or blame) Kate Middleton, some fashion designer and lots of employers.

For much of the 20th century, pantyhose were an essential component of any polished woman’s outfit. But then, many Gen X and Boomers stopped wearing pantyhose years ago, dismissing them as uncomfortable and easily ruined by runs. Most Millennial women have never even worn them, and thanks to more casual office wear, they don’t need to in most offices.

Overall sales for sheer hose are down 8% in the 12-month period ending in September, according to the NPD Group / Consumer Tracking Service, and just last year, Cosmopolitan’s style editor declared that hose was not okay.

But pantyhose is far from extinct. In fact, it is enjoying a small bit of a popularity among younger women, according to the NPD Group. Sheer hosiery had $482 million in sales in the one year period ending May 2015, the NPD Group reports, and 27% of those sales were to Millennials, which considering its increase of 9%, the group calls a notable revival.

What’s driving the popularity

While the fashion-forward (and Gen X) First Lady Michelle Obama does not wear them, Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton, a Millennial, notably does. She even inspired the “Kate effect” upon her royal engagement in 2010, boosting sales of styles and brands she wears, and in the case of hose sales surged. Hose have even made some recent appearances on runways,

A Google search for “pantyhose” brings links to major brands like No Nonsense and Hanes, but also shows another modern iteration of the legwear: as an object of fetish. One of the top results is a six-minute voyeuristic video called “Secretary in miniskirt, pantyhose and heels.” Many of the photos appearing at the Instagram hashtag #pantyhose (less than half a million hits, compared to #tights’ 1.1 million and #leggings’ 2.3 million), appear focused on the sexual aspect as well, with a more specific tag, #pantyhosefetish, also bringing up more than 60,000 posts.

And, while many companies have eased up their dress codes, pantyhose are still required in some types of workplaces.

Here’s a rundown of employers keeping the pantyhose industry alive.

Health care: Pantyhose were required wearing for women workers at the Mayo Clinic, but as of June, they’ve been removed from the dress and decorum policy, which forbids jeans, fleece and hiking boots.

But they’re still required in some other health care workplaces. Female officers of the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service must wear sheer hose when wearing skirts or dresses. All employees of Summa Health System, the largest employer in Summit County, Ohio with over 9,000 workers, must wear hose or tights if wearing skirts or dresses. (Also on Summa’s list of no-nos: “extreme or faddish” hair colors, visible piercings in excess of 2 per ear, visible tattoos, and going commando.) This did not go over well with all employees, according to posts on the job ratings site Glassdoor.com: “Female employees shouldn’t be required to wear panty hose and closed toe shoes because it just reinforces the misogynistic attitude that women’s bodies are dangerous and must be concealed,” said one worker’s comment. “Even the nuns that work in our affiliated hospitals are wearing sandals and capris.”

Financial services: In 2010 the Swiss bank UBS issued a persnickety 44-page dress code which specified, among many other rules and items of grooming advice (avoid garlic breath), what colors of stockings and undergarments were required (skin-tone). “Always wear stockings with dark trousers. If you wear a skirt, wearing tights remains binding even in hot weather.” That code was mocked, and the company later issued a shorter revision. Anecdotalevidence indicates that in numerous conservative workplaces including corporate, finance, and banking jobs, pantyhose is still either expressly or implicitly required. For lawyers, it can depend on the day’s duties, and if it’s a court appearance day, it can depend on the judge.

Politics: While it’s not required, hose are still worn in Washington, D.C., which the Fashion Whip blog called“one of the last bastions of formal attire in the country,” though the columnists attribute the hose-wearing more to Republican figures and wives. A congressional staffer told them, “Tights are all over the Hill in the winter, on everyone, because we all wear skirts so often. But come summer, the only women in hosiery are staffers who work for Southern, Republican senators. Then it’s sheer, nude pantyhose every day.”

Non-conservative restaurants: Hose doesn’t have to be polished or demure. At the “breastaurant” Hooters, “Hooters Girls” female wait staff wear Tamara brand shiny, tan, footless hose as part of the uniform. The capri-style hose is less likely to run, more comfortable, easier to clean, and fits a range of leg lengths. (Employees also wear slouchy white socks on top.) The Tamara hose are dispensed in vending machines in Hooters bathrooms in addition to being sold online. The Hooters style is alsoworn by cheerleaders, and the brand also makes a light support line of hose for casino workers.

Flight attendants: Each airline’s flight attendants wear distinctive uniforms, including opaque tights or sheer hose with skirts or dress styles. It’s not just a matter of a complete uniform being part of the airline’s branding, but because of the hours spent working at high altitude, there’s also a safety element. Compression stockings can help prevent deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and there’s a line called Sky-Highs marketed just to flight attendants.

Amanda Pleva, a flight attendant with 13 years of experience, wears Spanx tights for her uniform, but says the DVT concern is a definite threat. “Compression hose is great as well as convenient because it doesn’t snag as much.” That’s fortunate, as Sky-Highs cost $25 a pair–but Pleva said some insurance plans may cover the cost.

Here comes the summer

This lovely weather has really cheered us all up, with thoughts of long sunny days to come – hopefully !
Tightstightstights have selected a few of our most popular styles of sheer hosiery to help you decide what you may need to complete your outfit for those special occasions you may have lined up this season. Whether it be a special wedding, a summer garden party, raceday or holiday, we have hosiery to suit.

Our sheer hosiery starts at a very sheer 5 denier and goes up to 20 denier. If you prefer more coverage, you may prefer a 30 denier or even 40 denier style.

The lighter denier’s can give you the bare leg look whilst looking more polished, and feeling more secure in your appearance . They are generally a matt finish , although some have a slight sheen. Prices vary from Pretty Polly 5 denier with Sideria or Gipsy 7 denier Better than Bare to the premium brands Falke Invisible Deluxe 8 and Wolford Naked 8 .

Toeless tights and holdups have become increasingly popular in recent years. There is no need now use streaky fake tan! Most of the popular manufacturers now have toeless tights in their collection Pretty Polly Naturals Open Toe Tights being one. Falke Open Toe Holdup is the only toeless holdup on the market at the minute, hence they are very popular.

The most choice available in sheer hosiery is in the range of 10 – 15 denier. It may be that you feel slightly more secure in this range than the lighter deniers. There are various finishes to this range, matt, soft shine and glossy. It really depends on your style, the occasion, and the outfit as to what suits best. Kunert Fresh up 10 uses a special fibre to ensure you stay cool, Gipsy Soft Shine offers a subtle sheen and Levante Class tights are a good choice for a glossier finish and are available is a multitude of colours to enhance any outfit. Manufacturers, in the main, try to cover all size requirements , the Pretty Polly Curves range are specially designed for the fuller figured lady.
