The Suede Skirt Is The One Item You Need For Your Fall Wardrobe

This season, I'm finding myself caring less about patterns, prints, and colors, and more about shape, material, and structure. All three of these qualities embody the suede skirt — the one item you need for fall. What's so great about suede, you ask? Well, it may not hold up well in the rain, but it's guaranteed to keep you warm when the leaves begin to fall and temperatures hit below our comfort zones.

Suede, a material that once struck me as gaudy (I was scarred from the patched suede coats and skirts of yesteryear), is actually quickly becoming one of my favorites, especially in the form of a skirt. And since I basically want to stretch out my time of not wearing pants for as long as I can, it's the perfect item for fall, paired with a knee-high boot, or simply with stockings and sandals. Still loving that trend, by the way.

Much like how the color camel immediately makes an item look more luxurious and expensive, the same goes with suede. It's a step up from your cotton items. When picked out carefully and styled correctly, it looks like a million bucks. 'Tis the season for neutral colors, minimal vibes, and more shapeless silhouettes. I can't think of what incorporates all three more than this must-have item. Move over, Alexa Chung skirt (which, by the way, is literally on every storefront these days), and say hello to the suede skirt of your autumn dreams.

Below, find my favorite picks that'll keep you looking chic (and feeling warm) all season long.
1. The Fringe

Alice + Oliva Lavana Fringed Suede Skirt, $637, mytheresa.com

This skirt basically takes my two favorite trends of the season, fringe and suede, and joins them in this gorgeous skirt. I'll take one, please.
2. The Mini

Topshop Button Tab Suede Skirt, $140, nordstrom.com

I love, love, love the front zipper on this one. Paired with a pointed chelsea boot like this one, fall is basically yours.
3. The Sexy Slit

ASOS Curve Wrap Midi Skirt In Suede With D-Ring, $125.41, asos.com

This little number not only has a sexy slit, but also comes in this gorgeous marsala red color. This skirt is perfect for both daytime fun and a night out on the town.
4. The Button Down

Reformation Tucson Skirt, $238, reformation.com

Ok, so I lied, the Alexa Chung skirt isn't going away, and why should it? The suede version is a bit dressier than its famous denim twin, and paired with a chunky sweater like this one, you've got a comfy and stylish outfit.
5. The Classic Mod

Babaton Hopper Skirt, $110, us.aritzia.com

Get a pixie, accentuate your eyelashes, and you're practically Twiggy in this one.
6. The Knee-Length Stunner

Violeta By Mango Midi Suede Skirt, $229.99, shop.mango.com

This is possibly one of the most chicest lengths, and in this loose silhouette, this skirt will definitely grab some attention.
7. The '70s Throwback

Club Monaco Tulsie Suede Skirt, $595, clubmonaco.com

Love the '70s feel of this skirt. Plus, the rust/brown color is absolutely gorgeous.

This fall, let your legs roam free — they deserve it. And if you're lucky enough not to have sub-zero weather, rock these skirts in the winter, too. Just remember to throw on a thick pair of tights, sturdy boots, and please, oh please, don't forget the suede protector!
